Change Your Life From Your Deck Chair: Top Tips

Change Your Life From Your Deck Chair: Top Tips
by: Jo Orgill

Would you like to return home from your holiday this summer with more than a suntan and some holiday souvenirs? Have you been feeling that your life could be better and you want to make some changes?

How excited and motivated would you feel to return home with:
• a clear view of what you want from life, what changes you want to make and what you want to achieve
• a plan for how you are going to achieve your goals
• the commitment and motivation to make those changes happen?

Summer holidays are a great time for reflection, taking stock and making plans for the coming year. When I was younger, my family always decided what we were going to do on Christmas day (and what we were going to eat!), whilst on our annual trip to the south of France. Friends and colleagues often return from holidays with plans to move house, to take up a new interest or to look for a new job.

Holidays provide the perfect opportunity to think about you and what you want from life. Being away from our normal environment frees up our imagination.

So how can you increase the effectiveness of this and really get the most from your holiday thinking time? Here are just some of my top tips for how you can change your life starting from your deck chair:

1. Buy a hard backed, waterproof notebook (important to be able to wipe off the sun-cream splashes), carry it with you at ALL TIMES and a pen too!

2. Use your notebook to capture your thoughts about what you REALLY want from life, how you want your life to be – write it all down, however random it may seem – scribble away (pictures too are good).

3. Consider all aspects of your life: family, friends, career, health, home, leisure time, wealth etc. What do you want in each of these areas?

4. Plug in your mp3 player, put down the latest novel, relax on your deck chair and let your imagination run free.

5. Find time to be on your own, even if just for the odd half hour – take a walk along the beach, go for a coffee, sit in a shaded square and concentrate on you...
